It's a 2-step process to become an on-ice official and starting early is the best way to scheudle the class you need to take around the other events you may have this Fall.

The course will save where you  left-off and is a pre-requisite for part 2 (in-person course)

2. a. Register on HRC and attend an in-person course in the Fredericton or surounding area (anywhere in NB will do). This coures reviews the online course and covers material specific to officiating in New Brunswick
2. b. Attend on the on-ice portion of the in-person course where instructors will demonstrate examples of face-offs, icings and off-sides. (helmet, whistle, neckguard/throat protector and skates are required).

VSC/CRC

For new officials who are 18 years-old or older on December 31st - you will need to get a VSC/CRC. This will be required before you can enroll in the in-person course. The process is as follows;

  • Residents of Fredericton

    • you can apply for your records check with the City of Fredericton Police department online.
    • their online process is convenient, but can take 2-3 weeks to be completed (plan accordingly)
    • be sure to request the VSC (Vulnerable Sector Check) option which will include the CRC (Criminal Record Check).
    • Criminal Record Check - City of Fredericton (online)
  • Residents outside Fredericton (in the Service District)

    • you can apply in-person for your records check with the RCMP at the Oromocto Detachment.
    • be sure to request the VSC (Vulnerable Sector Check) option which will also include the CRC (Criminal Record Check).
    • RCMP Oromocto (M/W/F)

Once you have your VSC (paper or electronic) send a digital copy (scan the letter into a PDF and/or forward the electronic PDF) to the Zone 3 RIC, Bob Hathewey (nbzone3refs@gmail.com) who can update your HCR record.
